This page contains images I have taken when not on a
specific storm
chase.
These seasonal galleries now replace the Clouds Gallery and the
Sunsets/Sunrise Gallery.

Don't forget, there are
chase reports here as well!
July 17th 2004
Beautiful sunset over Melbourne. Sun rays, called crepuscular rays,
stream through gaps in clouds as parallel columns of sunlit air
separated by darker cloud shadowed regions. The rays appear to diverge
because of perspective effects. Airborne dust, inorganic salts, organic
aerosol particles, small water droplets and the air molecules themselves
scatter the sunlight and make the rays visible.

This cell delivered torrential rain & small hail over Silvan (Vic) as
some useful rain fell into the catchment areas, such as 59 mm fell over
O'Shannassy Reservoir in Melbourne's outer east while over the Otway
Ranges Mt Sabine received 41 mm. Elsewhere Violet Town reported 35 mm,
31 mm at Warrenbayne, and 30 mm at Marysville.

June 14th 2004
Sensational Mammatus (Mammatus
Clouds - Rounded, smooth, sack-like
protrusions hanging from the underside of a cloud (usually a
thunderstorm anvil). Mammatus clouds often accompany severe
thunderstorms, but do not produce severe weather; they may accompany
non-severe storms as well).

June 9th 2004

June 5th & 6th
