Walls of
Jerusalem - Long Tarn |
 |
2006 - June
17th - 18th : The Walls of Jerusalem is dominated by alpine
vegetation and endemic conifer forests amid a high plateau of
dolerite peaks. We walked in to camp the night in our tents
adjacent to the Long Tarn. The walk in took 5 hours under superb
clear skies. The evening sub-zero temps froze everything but we
soon thawed out the next morning under another brilliant clear
sky. |
|
NW Coast |
 |
2006 - June
10th - 12th : What a sensational weekend away on Tasmania's
picturesque NW Coast. Based in Smithton, we visited The Nut in
Stanley, the historical Woolnorth property and the adjoining
wind farm, and also took in the magnificent Cape Grim where the
Southern Ocean meets the Bass Strait. |
|
Mt
Barrow Summit |
 |
2006 - May
28th : A very early morning start as Ross Padgett & I set
off for the Mt Barrow summit, via the tourist route this time,
to get a different perspective of this majestic area. Roscoe & I
were stunned by the panoramic views and the many walking
opportunities available across the saddle of the mountain. |
|
East
Sandy Pt |
 |
2006 - May
15th : Just a day walk along the coastline at East Sandy
Point, in NE Tasmania near Bridport. For a while we were joined
by a seal, playing in shallow water along the rockline. |
|
Maria Island |
 |
2006 - May
7th to 8th : Maria Island has undergone many changes since
the first crude camps of whalers and sealers were set up on its
shores in the early 1800s. It is an amazing place to bushwalk
and a photographer's dream! |
|
Cradle
Mountain |
 |
2006 - May
3rd to May 5th : The objective for our party was to complete
the Overland Track, but the weather prevented us from completing
the entire trek. We enjoyed a couple of day walks despite the
weather, experiencing some amazing and extreme alpine conditions
along the way. |
|
Lady Lake |
 |
2006 -
April 10th : This walk, on Higgs Track, goes through a
beautiful rain forest of old Myrtles, Sassafras and ferns and
took us to the splendid Lady Lake , elevation around 1350
metres. |
|
Ben Lomond |
 |
2006 -
April 9th : The magnificent mountain of Ben Lomond with its
imposing and precipitous cliffs is visible over much of the
northern midlands of Tasmania. The plateau is roughly 14
kilometres in length, 6 kilometres wide and is in excess of 1300
metres in height. A summit on the plateau named Legges Tor is
the second highest point in Tasmania (1572 metres). |
|
Badger Head |
 |
2006 -
February 22nd : Badger Head can be found in the
Narawntapu National Park. It was originally named the Asbestos Range
National Park because of the copper, asbestos, iron and gold that was
mined around the edges of the mountain range in the early 1800 to
1830’s, forcing the Norroundboo people off their land. The scenery on
the coastal leg of this walk is daunting, but it's hard on your
feet and legs as it's a long rock scramble that takes over 4
hours to Bakers Beach over sharp, jagged and potentially
dangerous rocks, with some short cliff climbs and descents
required. |
|
Mt Roland & Mt Van
Dyke |
 |
2006 -
February 13th : 8.5 hour trek to the summits of Mt Roland
and Mt Van Dyke, with stunning views from the NW coast through
to Andersons Bay, south to Ben Lomond and across to the Great
Western Tiers, Pelion Range and Walls of Jerusalem. |

waterfalls, streams, ferns, exotic flora and and fauna. |
|
Bastion Cascades |
 |
2006 -

this is a little known but stunning day walk through challenging
and often steep terrain. |
