Launceston Tasmania Floods August 31st 2005

Launceston based photographer Ross Padgett captured these images on the morning of August 31st 2005. Launceston received in excess of 300mm in August and as you will see from the image below, many areas became flooded. Most of the images below are taken looking at the South Esk River in St Leonards and surrounding farmlands.

Major flooding was reported throughout the Meander river basin. Deloraine peaked at 3.6 metres on the 31st August. Meander peaked at 3.2 metres on the 31st and Strathbridge 8.1 metres on the 1st of September.

Major flooding was reported in the North Esk river basin.
Corra Linn peaked at 3.9 metres on the 31st.

Moderate flooding was reported in the upper reaches of the south Esk river basin. Fingal peaked at 5.8 metres on the 31st and the Llewellyn peaked at 5.2 metres on the 1st of September.

Firstly, here's a rainfall map for August courtesy BOM.

Above...note the bucket high and dry on the left, and a matter of hours later the water has risen significantly.
