On Saturday June 5th 2004 I was fortunate enough to spend the day in Tasmania's Central Highlands. It was a clear sunny day and although the temps were low, there was little to no wind and in the past 48 hours several centimetres of snow had fallen above the 800m level. Although 24 hours of sunshine had melted much of this, plenty remained and the sightseeing was amazing.

The journey started in my home city of Launceston, then through to Longford, Cressy, Poatina and up to Great Lake and Arthurs lake. Then, through Liawenee and back down into Deloraine. The following images are but a selected few, the scenery is simply stunning and has to be seen to be believed.

All images captured on digital, Nikon 5400.

The first image shows the view to where we're headed, taken between Cressy and Poatina looking towards the Central Highlands. The last two images in the 2nd row are my favourites! Also shown is the Great Lake Hotel and Great Lake itself.

‹ Panorama taken North of Liawenee, looking East.

Below, this row shows a small frozen lake near Liawenee and the Bureau of Meteorology Automatic Weather Station at Liawenee, often recording the coldest temperatures within Australia!

Every day must come to an end, one of many Contrails sighted this day fades to a magical sunset.

On Sunday June 6th the destination was the amazing Mt Barrow, east of Launceston. This amazing tranquil and beautiful location boasts amazing habitats and if you're prepared to climb, views of Ben Lomond, Ben Nevis and beyond that words can't describe. On this morning, there was ice and some snow on the peaks and we discovered some amazing creeks and mountain streams amongst the thick and lush undergrowth. Grab a cuppa and enjoy these images, I hope the beauty is translated through the images well enough through the images.

Note: some images are large, up to 140kb.

‹ Panorama from a very secret but sensational area on Mt Barrow, looking to the SE slopes of the mountain.
