Mt Barrow Summit
May 28th 2006
A very early morning start as Ross Padgett & I set off
for the Mt Barrow summit, via the tourist route this time, to get a
different perspective of this majestic area. Roscoe & I were stunned by
the panoramic views and the many walking opportunities available across
the saddle of the mountain. We were within a few metres of the summit
with my GPS indicating our maximum height reached as being 1396 metres
ASL. We enjoyed 360 degree views from the telecommunications facility on
the northern end of the summit with views to the NE & East coast, across
the Fingal valley, down the midlands and across to Ben Nevis, Ben
Lomond, Legges Tor, Saddleback and everything in between! The
temperature was cold but little breeze, a nice covering of ice on the
ground and the autumn colours in the heath and shrubs made for a
colourful foreground for some of the photos taken. On the drive up, we
had a nice opportunity to photograph the sun's rays through the fog,
creating a terrific silhouetted line through the fog.
