April 16th 2006

Molly the wonderdog and I set off early this morning to see where the snow line was on Mt Barrow, and to take advantage of the very clear but cold conditions to take some photos. Took the 4WD track up to the mountain plain (1050m ASL) and it appeared that the snow line was at around 1100 - 1200 metres, as you'll see below.

Above: The view looking east from Maxs Lookout, Launceston to the left, Tamar Valley to the right.

Above: The mountain plain looking towards the summit, the radio towers are obscured by cloud.

Above: Molly finds out just how cold the mountain water is...and the snow is visible in the last image on the summit.

Above: View from Maxs lookout, more shots of the summit and the last image, plus the next few, show the magnificent Myrtle Forest.

Above: The Myrtle Forest in all her glory, a magical hidden treasure
